Custom components may combine milling, turning, drilling, threading and finishing. Start with the function of the part and the assembly constraints, then review the manufacturing route.

Design points to review

Define critical interfaces, cosmetic surfaces and acceptable edge conditions. Separate reference dimensions from acceptance criteria. For an assembly, provide a bill of materials, mating drawings and any supplied hardware requirements.

Material and acceptance requirements

Request a quotation against a named revision with an agreed quantity and inspection scope. Confirm material documentation, packaging and surface protection requirements. For repeat supply, define how changes and first-sample approval will be handled.

Prepare a comparable quotation

Send the STEP model and dimensioned PDF with the same revision.
State material grade, finish, quantity and delivery destination.
Mark critical tolerances and required inspection documents.
Identify sample approval and repeat-order expectations.

Price, lead time and manufacturing feasibility are confirmed after review of the complete requirements.

What should I include in a machining RFQ?

Send a 3D STEP file and a dimensioned PDF drawing, material grade, quantity, surface finish, critical tolerances and delivery destination. If you only have a concept, describe the function and mating components.

Can I request a prototype before a production batch?

Yes. Identify the prototype quantity and expected repeat-order volume in your inquiry. We will review manufacturability, inspection needs and the transition to batch production before quoting.
