CNC turning: concentric parts with controlled fits

Turning suits shafts, sleeves, bushings, spacers and flanges organized around a central axis. Milled flats, cross holes and off-axis features can require additional operations.

Design points to review

Identify bearing seats, mating diameters, thread standard and runout requirements. Distinguish functional fits from clearance dimensions. Long slender shafts, thin sleeves and deep bores may need process-specific support and inspection.

Material and acceptance requirements

Specify material condition and any heat treatment before machining. For sliding interfaces, communicate the mating material, lubrication and wear environment. State whether coating dimensions are included in the final fit.

Prepare a comparable quotation

• Send the STEP model and dimensioned PDF with the same revision.
• State material grade, finish, quantity and delivery destination.
• Mark critical tolerances and required inspection documents.
• Identify sample approval and repeat-order expectations.
