CNC milling: pockets, planes and precise interfaces

Milling is suitable for housings, manifolds, fixture plates and brackets with features distributed across flat faces. Identify mounting holes, sealing lands and the surfaces that locate the part in the assembly.

Design points to review

Use internal corner radii compatible with practical cutter diameters. Deep narrow pockets may need longer tools and additional operations. Thin walls should be reviewed for clamping distortion; define the surfaces whose flatness matters after finishing.

Material and acceptance requirements

Aluminum is often selected for lightweight housings, while stainless steel may suit corrosion-sensitive parts. Engineering plastics require attention to thermal movement and workholding. Specify the exact grade rather than a general material name.

• Send the STEP model and dimensioned PDF with the same revision.
• State material grade, finish, quantity and delivery destination.
• Mark critical tolerances and required inspection documents.
